Highway 4 Widening/Build/Replace Bridges

Highway 4 Widening/Build/Replace Bridges

Project Details:

The project involved 5 overlapping projects to widen State Route 4 from Harbor to Hillcrest. It was built in 17 stages minimizing conflicts between adjacent contracts using internal milestones. The project extended box culverts in 3 creeks in 7 stages and 1 pump plant to drain the area. The newly adopted language in the RWQCB and CDFG permit requirements posed challenges. 5 bridges were demolished and 4 new structures were constructed in 7 stages while continuously maintaining uninterrupted traffic. Structures were constructed in the median to accommodate future eBART. O.C. Jones & Sons placed 31,963 m3 of concrete paving; 104,946 tons of a.g. paving; and cement stabilized 81,154 m2..
